Ānṛśaṃsya–Bhakti: Śukaḥ Śakreṇa Parīkṣitaḥ

अस्मिन्नहं टद्रुमे जात: साधुभिश्न गुणैर्युत: । बालभावेन संगुप्त: शत्रुभिश्षल न धर्षित:,“मैंने इसी वृक्षपर जन्म लिया और यहीं रहकर अच्छे-अच्छे गुण सीखे हैं। इस वृक्षने अपने बालककी भाँति मुझे सुरक्षित रखा और मेरे ऊपर शत्रुओंका आक्रमण नहीं होने दिया।”

asminn ahaṃ tad-drume jātaḥ sādhubhiś ca guṇair yutaḥ | bāla-bhāvena saṃguptaḥ śatrubhiś ca na dharṣitaḥ ||

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഈ വൃക്ഷത്തിലേയാണ് ഞാൻ ജനിച്ചത്; ഇവിടെ തന്നെയിരുന്നു സജ്ജന്മാർ ആദരിക്കുന്ന ഗുണങ്ങളാൽ സമ്പന്നനായി വളർന്നു. ഒരു കുഞ്ഞിനെപ്പോലെ ഇത് എന്നെ കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിച്ചു; ശത്രുക്കൾക്ക് എന്നെ കീഴടക്കാനോ അപമാനിക്കാനോ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.
