यस्त्वत्र मन्त्रसमयो भारयपत्योर्मिथ: कृत: । तमेवाहुर्गरीयांसं यश्चासौ ज्ञातिभि: कृत:
yas tv atra mantrasamayo bhāryāpatyor mithaḥ kṛtaḥ | tam evāhur garīyāṁsaṁ yaś cāsau jñātibhiḥ kṛtaḥ ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഭർത്താവും ഭാര്യയും പരസ്പരം പവിത്രമന്ത്രോച്ചാരണത്തോടുകൂടി ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രതിജ്ഞയാണ് ഏറ്റവും ഭാരവത്തും ശ്രേഷ്ഠവുമെന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്നത്. അതേ ബന്ധത്തെ ബന്ധുക്കളും അംഗീകരിച്ച് പിന്തുണച്ചാൽ അത് കൂടുതൽ പ്രശംസനീയമാകും; കാരണം വ്യക്തിഗത വ്രതത്തോടൊപ്പം സാമൂഹിക അംഗീകാരവും സ്ഥിരതയും കൂടി ചേരുന്നു.
