ततश्च तं बली भीष्म: प्रगृह्म विपुलं भुजम् उद्यन्मेघस्वरो वाग्मी काले वचनमत्रवीत्,फिर प्रवचनकुशल बलवान भीष्मने युधिष्ठिरकी विशाल भुजा हाथमें लेकर मेघके समान गम्भीर वाणीमें यह समयोचित वचन कहा--
tataś ca taṃ balī bhīṣmaḥ pragṛhya vipulaṃ bhujam udyanmeghasvaro vāgmī kāle vacanam abravīt |
അപ്പോൾ ശക്തനായ ഭീഷ്മൻ യുദ്ധിഷ്ഠിരന്റെ വിശാലഭുജം പിടിച്ചു, ഉയർന്നുവരുന്ന മേഘഗർജ്ജനത്തെപ്പോലെ ഗംഭീരസ്വരമുള്ള വാഗ്മിയായി, സമയോചിതമായ വാക്കുകൾ പറഞ്ഞു—ധർമ്മാനുസൃതമായി ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്റെ നൈതിക ചട്ടക്കൂട് സ്ഥാപിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്।
