Shloka 23

वेदे चास्य विदुर्विप्रा: शतरुद्रीयमुत्तमम्‌ । व्यासेनोक्तं च यच्चापि उपस्थानं महात्मन:,वेदके शतरुद्रिय प्रकरणमें उनके सैकड़ों उत्तम नाम हैं, जिन्हें वेदवेत्ता ब्राह्मण जानते हैं। महर्षि व्यासने भी उन महात्मा शिवका उपस्थान (स्तवन) बताया है

vede cāsya vidur viprāḥ śatarudrīyam uttamam | vyāsenoktaṃ ca yac cāpi upasthānaṃ mahātmanaḥ ||

വേദത്തിലെ ഉത്തമമായ ശതരുദ്രീയത്തിൽ അവന്റെ അനേകം ശ്രേഷ്ഠ നാമങ്ങൾ പ്രസ്താവിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; അവയെ വേദവിദഗ്ധരായ ബ്രാഹ്മണർ അറിയുന്നു. മഹർഷി വ്യാസനും ആ മഹാത്മാവ് (ശിവൻ)ക്ക് അർപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഉപസ്ഥാന—സ്തുതി—ഉപദേശിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
