स एव पूर्व निजघान दैत्यान् स पूर्वदेवश्च बभूव सम्राट् । स भूतानां भावनो भूतभव्य: स विश्वस्यास्य जगतश्लाभिगोप्ता
sa eva pūrvaṁ nijaghāna daityān sa pūrvadevaś ca babhūva samrāṭ | sa bhūtānāṁ bhāvano bhūtabhavyaḥ sa viśvasyāsya jagataś cābhigoptā ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—പുരാതനകാലത്ത് ദൈത്യന്മാരെ വധിച്ചത് അവൻ തന്നെയായിരുന്നു; ആദിദേവന്മാരിൽ സമ്രാട്ടായി ഉയർന്നതും അവൻ തന്നേ. ഭൂതവും ഭാവിയും ഉൾപ്പെടെ സർവ്വഭൂതങ്ങളുടെ പോഷകനും, ഈ സമഗ്ര വിശ്വജഗത്തിന്റെ ജാഗ്രതയുള്ള രക്ഷകനും അവൻ തന്നെയാണ്.
