व्यजयच्छत्रुसंघांश्व देवानां स्वेन तेजसा । अत्रिणा दह्ामानांस्तान् दृष्टवा देवा महासुरान्
vyajayac chatrusaṅghāṁś ca devānāṁ svena tejasā | atriṇā dahyamānāṁs tān dṛṣṭvā devā mahāsurān |
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു— സ്വന്തം ആത്മതേജസ്സാൽ അദ്ദേഹം ദേവന്മാരുടെ ശത്രുസമൂഹങ്ങളെ കീഴടക്കി. അത്രിയുടെ ശക്തിയിൽ ആ മഹാസുരന്മാർ ദഹിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതു കണ്ടപ്പോൾ, അത്രിയുടെ സംരക്ഷണത്തിൽ സുരക്ഷിതരായ ദേവന്മാരും അപ്പോൾ തന്നെ പരാക്രമം കാട്ടി ആ ദൈത്യന്മാരെ വധിച്ചു. ഇങ്ങനെ അത്രി സൂര്യനെ ദീപ്തിമാനാക്കി, ദേവന്മാരെ അപകടത്തിൽ നിന്ന് രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തി, അസുരന്മാരെ നശിപ്പിച്ചു।
