श्रीमहेश्वर उवाच
The verse highlights the social and moral consequences of adharma: when people are driven into despair—hunger, thirst, and ostracism—they may abandon righteous means and survive through sinful or unlawful livelihood. It implicitly warns that adharma degrades both character and social standing, and that sustaining life should be aligned with dharma rather than wrongdoing.
Śrī Maheśvara describes the condition of those who live contrary to dharma: they are shunned by society, suffer continual deprivation, and, having lost hope of legitimate enjoyments, continue life by adopting an unrighteous mode of earning and conduct.
