Nārāyaṇa-tejas: Kṛṣṇa’s Vrata, the Fire-Manifestation, and the Sages’ Inquiry

bhīṣma uvāca | sarve pūjyāḥ śrutadhanās tathaiva ca tapasvinaḥ | dānapradāḥ sukhaṃ pretya prāpnuvantīha ca śriyam ||

Educational Q&A

Honor those who possess learning and those who practice austerity; and practice charity, because giving yields both worldly prosperity and posthumous happiness.

In Bhishma’s instruction on dharma, he lays down a norm of social and moral conduct: the learned and the ascetic are to be revered, and the giver is praised for gaining benefits in both this life and the next.
