भीष्म उवाच एवमेतन्महाबाहो यथा वदसि भारत | विवर्जिते तु बहवो गुणा: कौरवनन्दन । ये भवन्ति मनुष्याणां तान्‌ मे निगदतः शृणु

bhīṣma uvāca evam etan mahābāho yathā vadasi bhārata | vivarjite tu bahavo guṇāḥ kauravanandana | ye bhavanti manuṣyāṇāṃ tān me nigadataḥ śṛṇu ||

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു— മഹാബാഹോ ഭാരതാ, നീ പറയുന്നതുപോലെ തന്നെയാണ് സത്യം. കൗരവനന്ദനാ, മാംസം വर्जിക്കുമ്പോൾ മനുഷ്യർക്കു അനേകം ഗുണങ്ങളും നേട്ടങ്ങളും സുലഭമാകുന്നു; ഞാൻ പറയുന്നതു കേൾക്കുക।
