King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt
गौतमान्मिथुनं जज्ञे शरस्तम्बाच्छरद्वत: | अश्वत्थाम्नश्न॒ जननी कृपश्चैव महाबल:
Gautamān mithunaṃ jajñe śarastambāc charadvataḥ | aśvatthāmnaś ca jananī kṛpī caiva mahābalāḥ kṛpaś caiva ||
ഗൗതമവംശീയനായ ശരദ്വതന്റെ വീര്യം ശരസ്തംബത്തിൽ വീണു രണ്ടായി വിഭജിക്കപ്പെട്ടു; അതിൽ നിന്ന് ഒരു കന്യയും ഒരു പുത്രനും ജനിച്ചു. കന്യയ്ക്ക് കൃപീ എന്നു പേര്—അവൾ പിന്നീടു അശ്വത്താമാവിന്റെ ജനനിയായി; പുത്രൻ മഹാബലനായ കൃപ എന്ന പേരിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധനായി.
