वैशम्पायन उवाच एवं स्तुतस्तदा तेन मन्दपालेन पावक:
Vaiśampāyana uvāca—evaṁ stutas tadā tena Mandapālena Pāvakaḥ; prasannaḥ sa mahātejā ṛṣim abhyabhāṣata—“kiṁ te ’bhīṣṭaṁ karavāṇi?”
വൈശമ്പായനന് പറഞ്ഞു—രാജാവേ! മന്ദപാല മുനി ഇങ്ങനെ സ്തുതിച്ചപ്പോൾ പാവകനായ അഗ്നിദേവൻ ആ അപാരതേജസ്സുള്ള മഹർഷിയോട് അത്യന്തം പ്രസന്നനായി. പ്രീതഹൃദയത്തോടെ അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു—“നിന്റെ ഏത് അഭീഷ്ടകാര്യമാണ് ഞാൻ സാധിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടത്?”
