पुण्यानामितिहासानां शैवादीनां तथैव च श्रोत्रे स्पृशेद्धि तुष्ट्यर्थं हृद्देशं तु ततः स्पृशेत्

പുണ്യമായ ഇതിഹാസങ്ങൾ—വിശേഷിച്ച് ശൈവകഥകൾ—ശ്രവിക്കുമ്പോൾ അന്തഃതൃപ്തിക്കും ഗ്രഹണശേഷിക്കും വേണ്ടി കാതുകൾ സ്പർശിക്കണം; തുടർന്ന് ഹൃദയദേശം സ്പർശിക്കണം, ശ്രുതധർമ്മം ശിവരൂപ പതി-ഭക്തിയോടെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ സ്ഥാപിതമാകുവാൻ।
