Vṛtrāsura Rebukes Indra; Heroic Combat and the Asura’s Pure Devotional Prayers
विशीर्यमाणां पृतनामासुरीमसुरर्षभ: । कालानुकूलैस्त्रिदशै: काल्यमानामनाथवत् ॥ २ ॥ दृष्ट्वातप्यत सङ्कुद्ध इन्द्रशत्रुरमर्षित: । तान् निवार्यौजसा राजन् निर्भर्त्स्येदमुवाच ह ॥ ३ ॥

ഹേ രാജാവേ! കാലം അനുകൂലമായ അവസരം ലഭിച്ചതോടെ ദേവന്മാർ പിന്നിൽ നിന്ന് ആക്രമിച്ച് ദൈത്യസേനയെ ചിതറിച്ചു; നേതാവില്ലാത്ത സേനപോലെ അത് പിരിഞ്ഞുപോയി. തന്റെ സൈനികരുടെ ദയനീയാവസ്ഥ കണ്ട അസുരശ്രേഷ്ഠനായ വൃത്രാസുരൻ—ഇന്ദ്രശത്രു—അത്യന്തം വ്യഥിതനായി കോപിച്ചു. അവൻ ബലത്തോടെ അവരെ തടഞ്ഞ് ദേവന്മാരെ ശാസിച്ച് ക്രോധത്തോടെ ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു.
