Vṛtrāsura Rebukes Indra; Heroic Combat and the Asura’s Pure Devotional Prayers
न सन्नवाहाय विषण्णचेतसे प्रायुङ्क्त भूय: स गदां महात्मा । इन्द्रोऽमृतस्यन्दिकराभिमर्श वीतव्यथक्षतवाहोऽवतस्थे ॥ १२ ॥
na sanna-vāhāya viṣaṇṇa-cetase prāyuṅkta bhūyaḥ sa gadāṁ mahātmā indro ’mṛta-syandi-karābhimarśa- vīta-vyatha-kṣata-vāho ’vatasthe
ഇന്ദ്രന്റെ വാഹനം ക്ഷീണിച്ചതും പരിക്കേറ്റതും കണ്ട്, ഇന്ദ്രൻ വിഷമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് കണ്ട്, മഹാത്മാവായ വൃത്രാസുരൻ ധർമ്മം പാലിച്ച് വീണ്ടും ഗദകൊണ്ട് ആക്രമിച്ചില്ല. ഈ അവസരം മുതലെടുത്ത്, ഇന്ദ്രൻ തന്റെ അമൃതഹസ്തം കൊണ്ട് ആനയെ സ്പർശിച്ചു, അങ്ങനെ അതിന്റെ വേദനയും മുറിവുകളും മാറ്റി. പിന്നീട് ആനയും ഇന്ദ്രനും അവിടെ നിന്നു.
