Dadhīci’s Supreme Charity and the Opening of Indra’s War with Vṛtrāsura
तथाभियाचितो देवैर्ऋषिराथर्वणो महान् । मोदमान उवाचेदं प्रहसन्निव भारत ॥ २ ॥
tathābhiyācito devair ṛṣir ātharvaṇo mahān modamāna uvācedaṁ prahasann iva bhārata
ഓ ഭാരത (പരീക്ഷിത്), ഭഗവാന്റെ ആജ്ഞപ്രകാരം ദേവന്മാർ ആഥർവണന്റെ പുത്രനായ മഹർഷി ദധീചിയെ സമീപിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹം അത്യന്തം ഉദാരനായിരുന്നു; തന്റെ ദേഹം ദാനമായി നൽകണമെന്ന് യാചിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഉടൻ തന്നെ ഭാഗികമായി സമ്മതിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ ധർമ്മോപദേശം കേൾക്കാനാഗ്രഹിച്ച്, പുഞ്ചിരിയോടെ, തമാശയായി ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു.
