Although the gopīs lamented that Kṛṣṇa was associating with the city women in Mathurā, they now realize that as the absolute Personality of Godhead, He has no need for any women. It is out of His causeless mercy that He awards His association to His loving devotees.

FAQs

This verse states that Śrīpati (Kṛṣṇa) is āpta-kāma—complete in Himself, with nothing to gain—so He has no material need to accomplish anything through anyone.

In the mood of separation from Kṛṣṇa, the gopīs express humility and sorrow, questioning why the all-satisfied Lord would ever bother with them, even as Uddhava brings Kṛṣṇa’s message to console them.

It teaches that devotion is not a “transaction” to fulfill God’s needs; rather, bhakti purifies the devotee, cultivating humility, sincerity, and love without expecting worldly returns.
