This verse functions as a catalog of major mythic conflicts and episodes (battle-lists and event-names) rather than prescribing a ritual; its ‘knowledge’ is primarily purāṇic historiography—remembering and ordering key cosmic events.
By enumerating and indexing famous narrative cycles (Varāha episode, nectar-churning, Tārakāmaya war), the text acts like a reference-compendium, preserving names and sequence—an encyclopedic method used alongside its sections on ritual, polity, medicine, and arts.
Recollection (smaraṇa) of avatāra-episodes and cosmic victories is traditionally treated as meritorious, strengthening devotion and dharmic orientation by keeping the mind anchored in sacred history.
