Related Themes: Agni Purana Adhyāya 286 (Gaja-cikitsā) opening; preceding Adhyāya 285 colophon (Kalpa-sāgara)
It introduces Gaja-cikitsā—technical veterinary Ayurveda focused on diagnosing elephant disease-signs (gaja-lakṣaṇa) and prescribing treatments (cikitsā).
By shifting into a specialized, practical science—elephant medicine—alongside ritual, dharma, and other disciplines, it demonstrates the Agni Purana’s multi-domain, handbook-like scope.
Though primarily medical, caring for valuable living beings (especially royal elephants) aligns with dharmic stewardship—supporting non-harm, protection, and responsible kingship through competent healing.
