Account of the Birth/Origin of Vyāsa
पराशर उवाच । रम बाले मया सार्द्धं स्वच्छन्दं कामजै रसैः । स्वीयाभिलाषमाख्याहि पूरयाम्यधुना प्रिये
parāśara uvāca | rama bāle mayā sārddhaṃ svacchandaṃ kāmajai rasaiḥ | svīyābhilāṣamākhyāhi pūrayāmyadhunā priye
ພຣະປາຣາຊະຣະກ່າວວ່າ: “ໂອ ນາງນ້ອຍ, ຈົ່ງຫຼິ້ນສະໜຸກກັບຂ້າຢ່າງເສຣີ, ຮ່ວມກັນໃນຄວາມສຸກອັນເກີດຈາກກາມ. ຈົ່ງກ່າວຄວາມປາຖະໜາຂອງເຈົ້າ; ທີ່ຮັກ, ບັດນີ້ຂ້າຈະສຳເລັດໃຫ້”។

The verse highlights the outward pull of kāma (desire) and personal will; from a Shaiva Siddhānta lens, such impulses are part of pāśa (bondage) that must be refined and ultimately transcended through right discernment and devotion to Pati (Śiva).
Though the line itself is narrative and not a direct instruction on Liṅga worship, it functions as contrast: worldly enjoyment is changeful, while Saguna Śiva worship (Liṅga, mantra, pūjā) stabilizes the mind and redirects desire toward bhakti and grace.
A practical takeaway is sense-restraint supported by japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and daily Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) wearing as reminders to subdue kāma and orient the will toward Śiva.
