putrāṇi ca daśādyānāṃ putrāṇāṃ mama saṃtu vai | vadhyāśca ripavassarve saṃgrāme baladarpitāḥ

The verse highlights two human aims—progeny and protection—while warning that pride in power (baladarpita) invites downfall; in Shaiva thought, ego is a key pasha (bond) that must be subdued under Pati (Shiva’s) order.
