मेनायाः क्रोध-विलापः — Menā’s Lament and Reproach
to the Sage
नारद उवाच । यथार्थं सुंदरं रूपं ना ज्ञातं ते शिवस्य वै । लीलयेदं धृतं रूपं न यथार्थं शिवेन च
nārada uvāca | yathārthaṃ suṃdaraṃ rūpaṃ nā jñātaṃ te śivasya vai | līlayedaṃ dhṛtaṃ rūpaṃ na yathārthaṃ śivena ca
ນາຣະດະກ່າວວ່າ: «ແທ້ຈິງແລ້ວ ເຈົ້າຍັງບໍ່ຮູ້ຮູບອັນງາມສູງສຸດ ແລະ ຮູບທີ່ແທ້ຂອງພຣະສິວະ. ຮູບນີ້ພຣະສິວະຖືກສວມໄວ້ເພື່ອລີລາ—ການຫຼິ້ນທິບ—ບໍ່ແມ່ນສະພາບສຸດທ້າຍຂອງພຣະອົງ»।

Sthala Purana: General Siddhānta motif: Śiva’s ‘assumed form’ (līlā-rūpa) veils His para-svarūpa until the devotee is matured; no specific Jyotirliṅga episode is named in these verses.

It distinguishes Śiva’s ultimate reality (yathārtha) from His manifest, assumed forms. Spiritually, it teaches that devotees should honor visible forms as sacred līlā while seeking inner realization of Śiva as the supreme Pati beyond limiting appearances.
Like the Liṅga, an embodied or visible form is a compassionate support for devotion (saguṇa-upāsanā). The verse reminds the worshipper that such forms point to Śiva’s transcendent nature, so ritual worship should mature into contemplation of the formless, all-pervading Lord.
Practice japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with meditation that the worshipped form is Śiva’s līlā, while inwardly contemplating His true, limitless nature—thus uniting external pūjā with inner dhyāna.
