It teaches that outer cleanliness and orderly worship support inner purity, and that Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) is a Shaiva sign of surrender to Pati (Śiva) and remembrance of the impermanence of the body, aiding detachment and devotion.
Tripuṇḍra-dhāraṇa is a preparatory observance that aligns the devotee with Śiva’s worship; after performing the prior pūjā steps, the devotee bears the ash-marks as a consecrated seal of Saguna Śiva-bhakti and disciplined practice.
Wash the body and hands, complete the worship as prescribed, and then apply Tripuṇḍra using consecrated bhasma—treating it as a mindful act of Śiva-smaraṇa (remembrance) and purification.
