Concept: Confession of prior ignorance and a vow of lifelong and afterlife servitude to the Lord is the heart of śaraṇāgati.

Application: Admit spiritual forgetfulness without self-hatred; renew a simple identity—‘I am Your servant’—and express it through consistent acts of service, honesty, and restraint.

Primary Rasa: karuna

Secondary Rasa: shanta

FAQs

It expresses surrender (śaraṇāgati): the speaker asks for divine grace and declares lifelong service to the Lord in both this world (iha) and the next (amutra).

The confession “I did not recognize you before” models humility and self-correction—acknowledging past ignorance and committing to right relationship and service going forward.

It indicates continuity of moral and devotional commitment across worldly life and post-death states, emphasizing that devotion is not limited to immediate circumstances but is a lasting orientation of the self.
