Unspecified (narrative voice within Padma Purāṇa, Sṛṣṭikhaṇḍa context)

Concept: Relationships and life circumstances arise from puṇya; dharma requires proper means (sādhana), and affection (rati) is the matured result (pariṇāma) of prior causes—implying karmic continuity and ethical preparation.

Application: Invest in merit through truthfulness, service, charity, and devotional discipline; treat bonds as responsibilities shaped by past causes—nurture them with patience rather than entitlement.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A sage points to a flowing river where lotus buds open gradually, symbolizing the ripening of causes into results. Above, a subtle celestial ledger motif—constellations arranged like script—suggests puṇya guiding destiny, while a small Viṣṇu emblem anchors the moral order.","primary_figures":["sage (ṛṣi)","symbolic Viṣṇu emblem (śaṅkha-cakra)","lotus blossoms as allegory"],"setting":"riverbank with lotuses, peepal tree shade, simple hermitage elements","lighting_mood":"golden dawn","color_palette":["lotus pink","river jade","dawn gold","ash gray","sapphire blue"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: riverbank allegory with opening lotuses; sage teaching with palm-leaf manuscript; small Viṣṇu śaṅkha-cakra motif in the sky; lavish gold-leaf highlights on lotus petals and haloed symbols, rich vermilion and emerald garments.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: serene river scene with delicate lotuses and a contemplative sage; cool blues and greens, fine brushwork on ripples; distant hills and a small hermitage; symbolic constellation-script faintly painted in the sky.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: stylized river and lotus band, sage in frontal pose with bold outlines; celestial script motif as decorative frieze; dominant yellow-red-green palette with black contouring and temple-wall symmetry.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: lotus-dense river composition with ornate floral borders; central sage seated near a tulasī-like leafy motif; deep indigo background with gold star-script; intricate repetitive patterns and devotional symmetry."}

FAQs

It links life outcomes—here, marriage—to accumulated merit (puṇya), and adds a broader principle: dharma requires appropriate means and conditions, while affection (rati) arises when causes mature over time.

It implies that relationships are not merely accidental; they unfold from prior ethical causes (puṇya) and from the gradual maturation (pariṇāma) of conditions that support dharma and harmonious attachment.

That righteousness is not achieved by intention alone—one must cultivate the practical supports (sādhana) such as right conduct, discipline, and conducive circumstances for dharma to be fulfilled.
