FAQs

The verse describes a dharma-restoring force born in the human realm; without additional surrounding verses, it is best read generally as a righteous protector (often understood in Purāṇic contexts as a divinely empowered king or avatāra-like figure) who ends adharma and re-establishes order.

It frames cosmic conflict and imbalance as affecting both devas and asuras, and states that restoration occurs through an appearance in the human world—implying the human realm is the arena where dharma is re-ordered for the benefit (or correction) of all beings.

When dharma declines, decisive action is required to re-establish moral and social order; righteousness may appear in strong, even “fearsome,” forms when it must end destructive wrongdoing.
