वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical weight of counsel before conflict: a powerful claimant (Duryodhana) seeks validation and support, while an elder kinsman (Balarāma) is positioned to respond with guidance that must balance kinship, fairness, and dharma. It underscores that decisions made in diplomacy and alliance-building shape the moral trajectory toward war.
Duryodhana approaches Balarāma (Rauhiṇeya) and explains the purpose of his visit. The narrator then signals that Balarāma is about to answer Duryodhana, preparing the audience for the content of Balarāma’s counsel in the ensuing verses.
