Bhīṣma’s Dream-Counsel and the Prasvāpa Astra (भीष्मस्वप्नदर्शनम् / प्रस्वापास्त्रोपदेशः)
वत्स पर्याप्तमेतावद् भीष्मेण सह संयुगे । विमर्दस्ते महाबाहो व्यपयाहि रणादित:
vatsa paryāptam etāvad bhīṣmeṇa saha saṁyuge | vimardas te mahābāho vyapayāhi raṇād itaḥ ||
ພີສະມະກ່າວວ່າ: «ລູກເອີຍ, ພໍແລ້ວ—ເທົ່ານີ້ກໍພໍ. ໃນສົງຄາມ ເມື່ອເຈົ້າໄດ້ປະຈັນໜ້າກັບພີສະມະ ຄວາມພິນາດອັນຮຸນແຮງທີ່ເຈົ້າກໍ່ໄວ້ ກໍເກີນພໍແລ້ວ. ໂອ ຜູ້ມີແຂນແຂງກ້າ, ບັດນີ້ຈົ່ງຖອນຕົວອອກຈາກການຮົບນີ້»។
भीष्म उवाच
Even in righteous warfare, restraint matters: once a goal is met or destruction becomes excessive, a warrior should heed counsel and withdraw rather than pursue needless slaughter.
Bhishma addresses a younger, powerful warrior affectionately and urges him to stop—saying the damage already inflicted in the clash with Bhishma is sufficient, and instructing him to leave the battlefield.
