भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights nitya-karma—regular duties such as purification, libations, and fire-worship—as ethical training: self-discipline, reverence for cosmic order, and steadiness in dharma.
A great ascetic goes to the river, bathes for purification, performs twilight offerings (tarpana), completes agnihotra to honor Agni, and then worships the rising Sun by standing in attendance (upasthāna).
