भरद्वाज उवाच
The verse frames a classical dharmic mode of learning: a sage respectfully asks for an account of cosmic creation (prajā-visarga). It emphasizes disciplined inquiry into first principles—how order and multiplicity arise under a governing intelligence (prabhu/Brahmā).
Bharadvāja opens the chapter by asking a learned Brahmin sage (addressed as dvijasattama) to explain the process by which Brahmā, situated at Mount Meru, generates the diverse creation of beings.
