बृहस्पतेरुशनसो नोपदेश: श्रुतस्त्वया
bṛhaspater uśanaso nopadeśaḥ śrutastvayā

वायुदेव उवाच
True welfare in dharma and governance depends on heeding qualified counsel. The verse contrasts two archetypal teachers—Bṛhaspati (righteous guidance) and Uśanas/Śukra (pragmatic statecraft)—to stress that ignoring both moral and practical instruction leads to ethical and strategic failure.
Vāyudeva speaks in a reproachful tone, pointing out that the addressed person has not listened to the teachings associated with renowned divine preceptors. The statement functions as a moral diagnosis: the present misfortune or wrongdoing is rooted in neglect of wise guidance.
