वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how adharma spreads when power is abused and a public institution (the sabhā) fails to protect the vulnerable. It implicitly condemns the court’s silence and frames Draupadī’s humiliation as an ethical rupture demanding accountability.
In the Kuru assembly, Draupadī is forcibly dragged by Duḥśāsana; overcome with grief, she falls and laments. The narrator stresses that such degradation is wholly unworthy of her, intensifying the moral gravity of the scene.
