धारणाद्‌ धर्ममित्याहुर्धर्मों धारयते प्रजा: । यत्‌ स्यथाद्‌ धारणसंयुक्त स धर्म इति निश्चय:

Transliteration

dhāraṇād dharmam ity āhur dharmo dhārayate prajāḥ | yat syād dhāraṇa-saṃyuktaṃ sa dharma iti niścayaḥ ||

Translation

ເຂົາເວົ້າວ່າ ເອີ້ນວ່າ «ທັມມະ» ເພາະມັນເປັນສິ່ງທີ່ຄ້ຳຈຸນ. ທັມມະຄ້ຳຈຸນປະຊາຊົນ. ດັ່ງນັ້ນ ສິ່ງໃດທີ່ປະກອບດ້ວຍ «ການຄ້ຳຈຸນ»—ຄື ສິ່ງທີ່ຫຼ້ຽງຊີວິດ ແລະ ປົກປ້ອງສັດມີຊີວິດ—ນັ້ນແທ້ໆແມ່ນທັມມະ. ນີ້ແມ່ນຂໍ້ສະຫຼຸບທີ່ແນ່ນອນຂອງຄຳພີທັມມະ-ສາດສະຕຣາ.
