As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it frames the episode ethically by highlighting that the surrounding narrative centers on a pratijñā (solemn vow) and on counsel exchanged in wartime. It implicitly underscores how vows and duty become decisive moral forces in the Mahābhārata’s battlefield context.
This line marks the close of the chapter: it identifies the larger book (Droṇa Parva), the internal section (Pratijñā Parva), and the featured episode (the dialogue between Kṛṣṇa and Dāruka), and then states that the eighty-ninth chapter has concluded.
