Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that mere knowledge of sin (pāpa) is insufficient to restrain behavior when personal pleasure (ātmanaḥ sukha) dominates; ethical living requires self-control beyond intellectual awareness.

Nārada describes people who, despite recognizing intoxicants as morally harmful, continue to drink freely, surrounded by entertainment (song and instruments), illustrating how social pleasure can normalize wrongdoing.
