The verse highlights how pride (darpā/dṛpti) can magnify conflict into something terrifying and destructive; by likening a human duel to Indra’s cosmic battle with Vṛtra, it frames war as morally weighty and potentially world-shaking when driven by arrogance.
Sañjaya reports to the king that a fierce fight has erupted between two proud warriors on the battlefield, and he emphasizes its intensity by comparing it to the legendary battle between Indra (Vāsava) and Vṛtra.
