Educational Q&A

The verse highlights a key wartime value in the epic: collective loyalty to a revered leader and the protection of his yaśas (honor/renown). It reflects the kṣatriya concern that fame and reputation are preserved through steadfast support in battle.

Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Bhīṣma is backed by a massive, multi-regional force. Those troops are portrayed as rallying around Bhīṣma in the battlefield, intent on sustaining his great reputation during the conflict.
