In the face of overwhelming sorrow and harmful resolve, dharma favors compassionate, life-preserving action. Ulūpī’s remembrance of the Saṃjīvana-maṇi symbolizes timely intervention to restore life and avert irreversible loss.
Ulūpī recalls the life-restoring Saṃjīvana jewel; upon being remembered, it immediately appears. The verse sets up the means by which a grave situation—born of grief and a vow unto death in the surrounding narrative—can be remedied.
