Yudhiṣṭhira’s Grief, Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation, and Vyāsa’s Admonition (युधिष्ठिरशोक-निवारणोपदेशः)
युधिछिर उवाच गोविन्द मयि या प्रीतिस्तव सा विदिता मम । सौहृदेन तथा प्रेम्णा सदा मय्यनुकम्पसे
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca
govinda mayi yā prītis tava sā viditā mama |
sauhṛdena tathā premṇā sadā mayy anukampase ||
ຍຸທິສຖິຣະກ່າວວ່າ: “ໂກວິນທະເອີຍ, ຄວາມເມດຕາຮັກໃຫ້ຂອງທ່ານທີ່ມີຕໍ່ຂ້າພະເຈົ້າ ຂ້າພະເຈົ້າຮູ້ດີ. ເນື່ອງດ້ວຍມິດຕະພາບແລະຄວາມຮັກ ທ່ານຈຶ່ງປະທານຄວາມກະລຸນາແກ່ຂ້າພະເຈົ້າຢູ່ເສມອ.”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical ideal of steadfast compassion rooted in genuine friendship and love. Yudhiṣṭhira recognizes that Kṛṣṇa’s guidance is not merely strategic counsel but benevolent care (anukampā) grounded in sauhṛda (goodwill), modeling how power and wisdom should be exercised for another’s welfare.
In the Ashvamedhika context after the great war, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Kṛṣṇa as Govinda and openly acknowledges Kṛṣṇa’s constant kindness toward him. The line functions as a respectful preface, affirming trust and intimacy before further counsel or discussion in the chapter.
