व्यास उवाच
The verse frames painful historical events as part of an inevitable divine purpose: what must occur (bhavitavyam) happens, because it serves a larger cosmic task (sura-kārya). It encourages acceptance without moral blame toward the righteous, while still situating human affairs within dharma and a wider order.
Vyāsa addresses a blameless woman and explains that the unfolding events were destined and were undertaken for the gods’ purpose; hence many beings involved were not merely human but carried ‘divine portions’ (deva-bhāgāḥ) who descended to the earth to accomplish that task.
