पक्षे पक्षे गते यस्तु भक्तमश्नाति भारत | गवाढ्यो बहुपुत्रश्न बहुभार्य: स जायते,भरतनन्दन! जो पंद्रह-पंद्रह दिनपयर भोजन करता है, वह गोधनसे सम्पन्न और बहुत-से पुत्र तथा स्त्रियोंसे युक्त होता है
pakṣe pakṣe gate yas tu bhaktam aśnāti bhārata | gavāḍhyo bahuputraś ca bahubhāryaḥ sa jāyate ||
ອັງຄິຣາ ກ່າວວ່າ: “ໂອ ພາຣະຕະ, ຜູ້ໃດກິນອາຫານພຽງຄັ້ງດຽວໃນແຕ່ລະກຶ່ງເດືອນ (ຄື ຫຼັງ 15 ວັນ) ຜູ້ນັ້ນຈະເກີດໃໝ່ພ້ອມດ້ວຍຊັບງົວອຸດົມ, ມີລູກຊາຍຫຼາຍ, ແລະມີພັນລະຍາຫຼາຍ.”
अंगियरा उवाच
The verse teaches that rigorous restraint in eating—taking food only once per fortnight—is a form of tapas whose karmic fruit is described as prosperity (especially cattle), continuity of lineage (many sons), and household abundance (many wives) in a future birth.
In Anuśāsana Parva’s didactic setting, the sage Aṅgiras addresses “Bhārata” and enumerates the specific rewards (phala) associated with a particular austerity/vow concerning meal frequency.
