दाश उवाच
The verse highlights that true worth is measured by virtue and wisdom: Vidura, though born from a Śūdra womb, is described as proficient in dharma and artha, intelligent, and morally pure—implying that ethical authority and fitness to advise rulers arise from character, not merely from birth.
In the genealogical account of the Kuru line, the speaker identifies Vidura’s parentage: he was begotten by Dvaipāyana Vyāsa and born through a Śūdra woman, while emphasizing Vidura’s exceptional moral and intellectual qualities.
