Adhyāya 123 — Droṇa’s Pedagogy: Arjuna’s Preeminence, Ekalavya’s Self-Training, and the Bhāsa-Lakṣya Trial

प्राहु: क्षत्रे बलज्येष्ठं बलज्येष्ठं सुतं वृणु । (अश्वमेध: क्रतुश्रेष्ठो ज्योतिश्श्रेष्ठो दिवाकर: । ब्राह्मणों द्विपदां श्रेष्ठो बलश्रेष्ठस्तु मारुत: ।।

vaiśampāyana uvāca |

prāhuḥ kṣatre balajyeṣṭhaṃ balajyeṣṭhaṃ sutaṃ vṛṇu |

(aśvamedhaḥ kratuśreṣṭho jyotiśśreṣṭho divākaraḥ |

brāhmaṇo dvipadāṃ śreṣṭho balaśreṣṭhas tu mārutaḥ ||

mārutaṃ marutāṃ śreṣṭhaṃ sarvaprāṇibhir īḍitam |

āvāhaya tvaṃ niyamāt putrārthaṃ varavarṇini ||

sa no yaṃ dāsyati sutaṃ sa prāṇabalavān nṛṣu |)

atas tathokta bhartrā tu vāyum evājuhāva sā |

ໄວສຳປາຍະນະ ກ່າວວ່າ: «ໃນວົງວານນັກຮົບ ພະລັງກຳລັງແມ່ນຖືກຖືວ່າເປັນຄຸນຄ່າສູງສຸດ; ດັ່ງນັ້ນ ຈົ່ງເລືອກບຸດຜູ້ເປັນເລີດໃນກຳລັງ. ເຊັ່ນດຽວກັບອັສວະເມດະເປັນຍັນທີ່ຍິ່ງໃຫຍ່ທີ່ສຸດ, ພະອາທິດເປັນປະທານໃນບັນດາແສງສະຫວ່າງ, ແລະພຣາຫມະນະເປັນຜູ້ສູງສຸດໃນບັນດາມະນຸດ, ພະວາຍຸກໍເປັນຜູ້ສູງສຸດໃນພະລັງກຳລັງ. ໂອ ນາງຜູ້ຜິວພັນງາມ, ດັ່ງນັ້ນ ດ້ວຍການຮັກສາວິໄນຢ່າງຖືກຕ້ອງ ຈົ່ງເຊີນພະວາຍຸ—ເທວະຜູ້ປະເສີດທີ່ສັດທັງປວງສັນລະເສີນ—ເພື່ອຂໍບຸດ. ບຸດທີ່ພະອົງປະທານໃຫ້ພວກເຮົາ ຈະເປັນເລີດໃນບັນດາມະນຸດ ດ້ວຍພະລັງຊີວິດ ແລະກຳລັງກາຍ» ເມື່ອຖືກສາມີກ່າວດັ່ງນັ້ນ ຄຸນຕີຈຶ່ງເຊີນພະວາຍຸແຕ່ພຽງອົງດຽວ.
