Sukta 7

Rishi: Traditionally associated with Atharvanic/Brāhmaṇa-style prose-verse discourse in AV 15; specific ṛṣi attribution varies by anukramaṇī tradition.

Devata: Āpaḥ (Waters), Śraddhā (Faith), Varṣa/Vṛṣṭi (Rain) as personified powers attending the knower.

Chandas: Mixed/late Atharvanic style; not a strict early RV meter (often treated as anuṣṭubh-like cadence).

Frequently Asked Questions

It promises that sustaining powers—especially Waters, Faith, and Rain—naturally come to the person who understands and holds the teaching, resulting in purification, ritual success, and prosperity.

They form a practical triad of support: waters cleanse and protect, faith empowers sacrifice and resolve, and rain ensures fertility and food—together sustaining both ritual life and livelihood.

Recite it after ācamana with a clean water vessel present, optionally sprinkling water at the threshold or around oneself, and conclude by acknowledging anna (food) with a small offering or mindful sharing.
