Paingala Upanishad 4 — Verse 4

इन्द्रियाणि हयानाहुर्विषयांस्तेषु गोचरान्। जङ्गमानि विमानानि हृदयानि मनीषिणः॥४॥

इन्द्रियाणि । हयान् । आहुः । विषयान् । तेषु । गोचरान् । जङ्गमानि । विमानानि । हृदयानि । मनीषिणः ॥

IAST Transliteration

indriyāṇi hayān āhur viṣayāṁs teṣu gocarān | jaṅgamāni vimānāni hṛdayāni manīṣiṇaḥ ||4||

Translation

ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳು ಕುದುರೆಗಳೆಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ; ವಿಷಯಗಳು ಅವುಗಳ ಗೋಚರ, ಸಂಚಾರಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ. ಮನುಷ್ಯಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳು ಹೃದಯಗಳನ್ನು ಚಲಿಸುವ ವಿಮಾನಗಳಂತೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Academic Translation

The senses, they say, are horses; the objects (of sense) are their ranges of movement. The wise (also say) that the hearts are moving aerial cars (vimānas).
