(Narakaloka-varṇanam) — Description of the Hell-Realms
citragupta uvāca | bho bho duṣkṛtakarmmāṇaḥ para dravyāpahārakāḥ | garvitā rūpavīryeṇa paradārāvamarddakāḥ
Citragupta
Tattva Level: pasha
The verse highlights how adharma—stealing others’ property and violating others’ spouses—creates powerful karmic bondage (pāśa). In a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, such actions thicken impurity and keep the soul (paśu) bound, delaying Shiva’s grace and liberation.
Linga worship is not merely ritual; it presupposes dharmic conduct and inner purification. This admonition frames devotion to Saguna Shiva as requiring restraint and repentance—otherwise worship becomes outward while bondage remains inward.
The practical takeaway is ethical self-examination and confession-like repentance before Shiva worship—followed by steady japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with a resolve to abandon theft, exploitation, and sexual misconduct.
