Role: teaching
It emphasizes śravaṇa (devotional listening) with a steady mind, presenting sacred origins as purifying knowledge that supports bhakti and inner clarity in a Shaiva framework.
As a narrative transition in the Umāsaṃhitā, it models attentive listening to Shiva-centered Purāṇic teaching—an essential limb of devotion that prepares the devotee for Saguna Shiva worship and reverence for Shiva’s cosmic order.
Practice focused śravaṇa: sit calmly, steady the mind, and listen/recite Purāṇic passages with reverence—optionally preceded by simple japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” to settle the mind.
