Pitṛ-sarga and the Greatness of Śrāddha: The Inquiry
yadbhaktyā te tapaścīrṇaṃ mama darśanakāṃkṣayā | eṣa dṛṣṭo'smi bhadraṃ te kaṃ kāmaṃ karavāṇi te
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Darśana of Śiva obtained through bhakti and tapas; assurance of boon (vara) as a sign of anugraha.
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
The verse highlights the Shaiva Siddhanta emphasis on Pati (Shiva) as the compassionate Lord who responds to sincere bhakti and disciplined tapas by granting darshan and offering boons—signifying that divine grace crowns personal effort.
It reflects Saguna Shiva’s accessible, personal form: the devotee’s longing for Shiva’s darshan culminates in a direct manifestation. In Linga-worship, the same principle applies—steady devotion and worship lead to Shiva’s felt presence and blessing.
Steady tapas supported by bhakti—such as Panchakshara japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), focused dhyāna on Shiva’s form, and disciplined vrata—aimed specifically at Shiva-darshan rather than worldly gain.
