Suta Goswami (narrating the episode to the sages, with Satī’s direct speech quoted)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shakti Form: Satī
Role: teaching
The verse highlights that dharma, when reduced to mere social or ritual compliance, may not satisfy the soul; Satī’s movement reflects the Shaiva emphasis that true alignment is devotion to Pati (Śiva) and integrity of inner intent.
By contrasting ‘dharma’ as external obligation with heartfelt resolve, it supports the Purāṇic theme that Saguna Shiva worship (including Liṅga-pūjā) is fruitful when driven by sincere bhakti rather than pressure of convention.
The takeaway is to prioritize inner devotion—steady japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with a pure intention—over mechanical performance; the verse implies sincerity is the core of any Shiva Purana ritual.
