(Sṛṣṭi-vistāra-praśnaḥ) — The Detailed Inquiry into Creation
tasyāṃ putrasahasrāṇi vīriṇyāṃ paṃca vīryavān | āśritya janayāmāsa dakṣa eva prajāpatiḥ
Suta Goswami (narrating the Purana account to the sages, as typical for the Shiva Purana’s frame narrative)
Tattva Level: pasha
Role: creative
It highlights the outward movement of creation through Prajāpatis—proliferation of beings—setting a contrast with Shaiva teaching that liberation comes not from expansion of progeny, but from turning to Pati (Śiva) beyond worldly bonds (pāśa).
Though the verse itself is genealogical, it supports the larger narrative arc where Dakṣa’s line becomes central to events that ultimately reaffirm devotion to Saguna Śiva (and reverence for Śiva’s supremacy) over mere ritual-pride and worldly creation.
No specific rite is prescribed in this verse; the practical takeaway in Shaiva practice is to pair worldly duties with Śiva-smaraṇa—japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—so creation-bound life does not become bondage.
