Significance: Approaching the guru/ṛṣi who transmits Śiva-tattva is framed as the beginning of Śiva-anugraha (grace) that ripens the jīva toward devotion and right knowledge.
It highlights the Shaiva principle that true fulfillment arises when one turns toward a realized devotee and a sacred place of discipline—seeking higher knowledge and grace rather than mere worldly success.
Approaching Upamanyu’s hermitage signals moving toward formal Shaiva instruction, where Saguna Shiva worship (often centered on the Linga, mantra, and vrata) is taught as a practical path leading the seeker toward Shiva’s supreme reality.
The implied takeaway is guru-seeking and ashrama-discipline: adopt regular japa (especially the Panchakshara, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), along with simple observances like purity, restraint, and devotion as one learns Shaiva worship properly.
